Officer of the Year 1990
OFFICER ROBERTO YZQUIERDO Redlands Police, California Immediately following his appointment as a police officer in January, 1988 through September 1988, Officer Yzquierdo was assigned as an undercover agent. He posed for nearly a year as an outlaw-biker. Over that time he made recorded drug purchases that netted in the arrest of 75 drug dealers making an impact on crime and drugs in his area. He risked his life when confronted by gunmen and by circumstances in which he was alone and without backup. His courage and dedication were above and beyond the call of duty. Married with tow children, he was separated from them all during this assignment. His actions in exposing himself by direct contact whit biker-gangs and drug dealers helped to save the lives of residents of his community and made possible the arrest and conviction of ruthless and murderous criminals. The American Police Hall of Fame Awards Board, in selecting him, commends his loyalty to his country, his state and to the law enforcement profession.
