Scholarships

The American Federation of Police & Concerned Citizens (AFP&CC) honors the memory of men and women killed in the line of duty both as officers and as parents, by assisting their children in attaining a college education, an experience which has an immeasurable impact on a young adult’s life and future. Fallen officers leave behind a legacy of courage, commitment and honor; unfortunately that is not all they leave behind. Many of our fallen officers leave sons and daughters whose lives are forever changed by the hardship of losing a parent.

Each year, AFP&CC, through the Police Family Survivors Fund, awards hundreds of scholarships in the amount of $1,500 per year to surviving sons and daughters of police officers killed in the line of duty. This nationwide program provides assistance to high school graduates attending a traditionalfour-year college, university, technical or vocational educational institution for a total of $6,000 in scholarship funds per student over four years.

A law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty every 57 hours, on average. The fallen officer is often the primary, if not the sole, provider for that family. AFP&CC provides financial support and scholarships to the children of those men and women who lost their lives while fulfilling their pledge to serve and protect our society.

Through the generosity of donors, the Police Family Survivors Fund has provided over $1.5 million dollars in scholarships since the program began in 1994 and has maintained a policy of never turning anyone away. With the rising cost of higher education, AFP&CC hopes to increase the impact of its scholarship program by doubling the amount of financial assistance offered to each student. To achieve this worthy goal, AFP&CC will rely on donations from corporations, foundations and generous individuals who understand the importance of honoring our fallen law enforcement officers by supporting the future of the families they left behind.
