Summer Camp

Survivors who are of teen and pre-teen age are offered funding to attend a camp of their choice with monies provided by AFP&CC's Police Family Survivor's Fund. While other worthwhile organizations have specific "survivor camps" AFP&CC's Board of Directors felt that it should be up to each family where the child elects to attend camp. Whether it be a scouting camp, an arts-and crafts specialty camp, a YMCA or YMHA, or a science-related sleep away camp, funds are provided each spring and summer, and for the year 2001, up to $100 per week per son or daughter of any officer killed or severely disabled in the line of duty.

They are eligible for a maximum of two weeks per child in each case. The openness of the program, we feel, affords each child to enjoy him or herself and foster continuing education in the child's area of interest, guided, of course, by the wishes of the surviving parent. This concept for individualized funding is the "brainchild" of AFP&CC's Executive Director, Mrs. Donna Shepherd, herself a former educator (and a proud mother and grandma!)
