The Seventy-One Officers Killed on September 11th
New York City In an unprecedented decision by the Awards Committee of the American Police Hall of Fame, the seventy-one law enforcement officers who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center in New York City were heralded as the “Outstanding Law Enforcement Officers of the Year 2002”. This is the first time in the forty-two year existence of the awards program that no single officer has received the coveted honor previously reserved for one very special officer who had performed an act of bravery above and beyond the call of duty.
