About this Site

The American Police Hall of Fame and Museum, founded in 1960 by two organizations, lists over 6,800 officers who were killed in the line of duty. The two organizations are the National Association of Chiefs of Police (NACOP) and the American Federation of Police and Concerned Citizens (AFP&CC).

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE Facts:
Founded in 1967, NACOP is dedicated to educational advancement of law enforcement officers while assisting family survivors. Today, NACOP has 11,000 members from 50 states. NACOP issues guidelines for Line of Duty Deaths, surveys U.S. law enforcement agencies and publishes The Chief of Police Magazine. Other activities include:

VESTS FOR LIFE PROGRAM:
Created in 1996, this national program is a conduit for bulletproof vests by seeking used, but good, vests and providing these vests and similar equipment to under-funded departments in the U.S. Today, more than 500 vests have been distributed to nearly 100 departments. Last year, 182 vests were distributed to departments in 35 states. Today, the waiting list of 44 vests representing 30 departments is a constant reminder of the popularity of this program. The needed size is X-large so fund raising efforts are needed to purchase these vests to fulfill the need. A new vest costs approximately $400-$500.

CANINE PROGRAM:
In January 2001, NACOP provided the Homestead Police Department with funds earmarked for a police dog that will be used for use by the SWAT team, patrol and the Department’s Youth Educational Program.
