Six Hundred Sixty One... A Safe Number ! by Dep. Dennis Wise, “Vests For Life” Founder
I am pleased to report that since the inception of NACOP’s “Vests For Life” program in 1997, Six Hundred Sixty One Vests have been furnished to full time sworn American Law Enforcement officers in need of Body Armor due to budgetary constraints or financial need.
From Alabama to Wyoming.
The program, funded by the National Association of Chiefs of Police, works as clearinghouse of those larger departments with used vests to spare. NACOP accepts the vests, inventories them and issues them (after the recipient signs a liability waiver) to full time officers from smaller departments in need. Officers from forty different states have benefited from the program and there is no charge for the service which is funded by donors to the non-profit organization.
We Need Your Help.
Currently there are 128 officers on our “waiting list” and if you have a used vest that you care to donate to the program, or if you are a full-time sworn American law enforcement officer in need, write to Jim Gordon, Vests for Life Program Administrator, 6350 Horizon Dr., Titusville, FL 32780. We are especially in need of Sizes XL and XXL, however all vest donations will be appreciated!
