Homestead, according to Donna Shepherd, Executive Director of the 11,000-member national organization of command law enforcement professionals. "We hope this is just the beginning of a very important program for our community," said Shepherd during a recent ceremony at the American Police Hall
of Fame. "We have found that at least six of the 22 police agencies in Miami-Dade County are currently in need of additional canines and
bullet-resistant vests, but do not have the funds to buy them. Part of our mission is to provide these items. Through a campaign of public awareness beginning this
month, we hope to achieve this goal", Shepherd stated.Homestead Chief of Police Al Rolle, Handler Officer Tommy Pritchett and K-9
'Bravo' were on hand as Shepherd presented the Chief with a check for $5,000.00. 'Bravo', a 2-year-old German shepherd dog, is being schooled at Metro-Canine
and will soon not only enhance the Police SWAT team, but also join the department's youth education program. Officer Pritchett says 'Bravo' is wonderful
with children and believes working with children is what 'Bravo' will enjoy most. NACOP selected the Homestead Police Department to be the recipient of the first
K-9 because they had the most urgent need. One of their other dogs had to be retired, and the department did not have the funds to replace it.
NACOP, a tax-exempt public charity, operates the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum at 6350 Horizon Dr., Titusville, FL 32780. The Police Museum's
newest exhibit, a beautiful seafoam green vintage 1957 Harley-Davidson Servicar three-wheel police motorcycle has caught the attention of thousands of visitors.
The Police Museum is open daily. Call 305-573-0070 for more information.
